GENERAL SANTOS CITY (06 November 2014) – City Hall gave seed cash to the 26 barangays of the city Monday (October 3) for their implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) program called Project Modelo.
City Mayor Ronnel Rivera said the seed cash is for the barangays to implement their desired programs in support to the Project Modelo.
“As one of the major advocates of Project Modelo,” the mayor said, “my duty is to support the Department of Education in making our communities and offices children- and educational-friendly.”
For the rural barangays, the local government gave P20,000 and for the urban ones, P30,000.
The Project Modelo was officially launched last May by the DepEd and Mayor Rivera as their thrust in improving the educational system in the city by involving the different communities, offices, and even business establishments.
Specifically, these units are encouraged to adopt educational initiatives coming from the DepEd.
Mario Bermudez, the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Gensan, is grateful for the support the mayor gives when it comes to educational program. (Gensan CPIO/ Ian John M. Lagare)
