GENERAL SANTOS CITY (28 February 2014) - After noticing the dejected state of General Paulino Santos’ landing site during the celebration of the Kalilangan Festival, City Mayor Ronnel Rivera ordered the renovation and rehabilitation of the General Santos City Pioneers’ Park.
Pointing out to the graffiti, pock marks and general dilapidated state of the structures of the park, Mayor Rivera said, “we could lose one of our historical sites in the city.”
The mayor immediately conferred with Tourism Committee head Councilor Shandee Llido.
Llido said the Sangguniang Panglunsod has already allocated a budget for the renovation of the Pioneers’ Park and the City Engineers' Office could start work anytime.
She added that the city government will not allow vandals to further desecrate Pioneers’ Park as it is a witness to one of the city’s beginnings.
Mayor Rivera said “let us remember our past and its lessons, and live the unique culture of this wonderful city today, and keep it alive through our sons and daughters forever; keeping Pioneers’ Park alive is keeping our history alive.” (GENSAN INFO OFFICE/Ian John M. Lagare)
