GENERAL SANTOS CITY (26 November 2013) - Newly-elected and incumbent barangay captains of General Santos City were met by City Mayor Ronnel Rivera together with City Administrator Arnel Zapatos and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on November 19.
This is part of an orientation prior to their oath taking this November 28 at Oval Covered Court.
The orientation, spearheaded by the DILG and Mayor Rivera, was intended to discuss the process of proper turnover of office; which includes liquidations and systems audit.
This also includes an orientation about the direction of Rivera's administration, which heavily involves the participation of the barangays.
During the orientation, Mayor Rivera called for synergy between the barangay leaders and the local government, which is necessary for creating a progressive and holistic development in the city.
Rivera also assured the newly-elected barangay captains that his administration will be "colorblind" on the political affiliation of the leaders and instead he will focus on creating an unbiased government that will serve the constituents of the city.
Rivera told the leaders their projects must concentrate on education, health and modified social services, which are also his top priorities under the "CLEAN Gensan" (Creating a Livable Environment for All towards Nation Building) platform.
City Administrator Arnel Zapatos introduced the Barangay Integrated Affairs (BIA) and the Barangay Development Plan that will also assist in the implementation of the projects and programs of all the barangays.
Representatives from the DILG said that they will also coordinate with the local government of GenSan in monitoring barangay related programs and activities to ensure that everyone is working together towards one goal. (GENSAN INFO OFFICE/Ian John Lagare)
