GENERAL SANTOS CITY (23 December 2013) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) starts the installation of 940 LED streetlights in the main roads and highways of GenSan, replacing the traditional sodium-based streetlights. The LED streetlight, which has a capacity of 250W, is significantly brighter, efficient and environment-friendly compared to the sodium-based streetlights that are currently used in all the roads of the city. In the blueprint of DPWH, the target lines are the Makar-Kiamba road, Apopong Bridge, Makar-Marbel road, Makar-Round Ball road, Digos-Makar Road, Acharon Blvd. and Pioneer Avenue. The removed sodium-based streetlights will then be fitted in the city's secondary lines, especially in barangays that have insufficient lightings. City Mayor Ronnel Rivera has initiated the implementation of the P100-M LED lights project to deter night crimes. (GENSAN INFO OFFICE/Russell Delvo)
