Waste pickers get alternative livelihood


GENERAL SANTOS CITY (26 November 2013) - More than 700 waste pickers were recognized as beneficiaries of the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) grant for Social Inclusion and Alternative Livelihoods for the Informal Waste Sector Project during its project conference on Wednesday, November 20, at Lagao Gymnasium. The project is currently funded by the World Bank, while its technical working group came from the Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines, RD Foundation Inc., and the city government. City Mayor Ronnel Rivera graced the occasion and mentioned the importance of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in proliferating the livelihood and development of the constituents in the city.
