GENERAL SANTOS CITY (08 December 2013) - “Together with the present administration, we will work hard to increase the incentives to be received by all government employees.”
This was the message given by City Mayor Ronnel Rivera to the 325 employees and officials of the local government during the “5th Gabi ng Parangal” at Phela Grande Convention Center Tuesday (December 3).
Organized by the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) headed by its OIC Zenaida Eturma and City Mayor’s Office (CMO) Chief of Staff Lea Tolimao, the event was aimed at recognizing the employees who have rendered at least 10 years of service to the local government.
Six retirees were also lauded during the program. Most of them have spent at least 30 years in public service.
According to Mayor Rivera, he was surprised that retirees only receive P15, 000 as cash incentive for their years in service.
Because of this, Rivera announced that he will be giving an additional P10, 000 to employees who have more than 35 years of service.
“Public service is already a thankless job, but that doesn’t mean the local government should not take care of our public servants. I respect them and value them as partners in public service,” added Rivera, to the cheers and applause of the people present.
Ira Whitmerr, a retiree from the City Planning Office (CPO), logged the longest tenure with 44 years in the local government.
“I started as a casual employee on November 18, 1968 and maybe most of you are still kids back then,” Whitmerr kidded
He also gave his advice on how he “endured” the 44 years in service; first, love your work and second, respect your bosses. (GENSAN INFO OFFICE/Ian John Lagare)
