GENERAL SANTOS CITY (29 October 2013) – The RD Foundation through its general manager Rodrigo Rivera and family donated 132 armchairs to Jose Devina Gracia Elementary School and another 294 armchairs to Bula Central Elementary School on October 23.
During the Armchairs Project turnover ceremony at Bula Central Elementary School, Rivera spoke in behalf of his son City Mayor Ronnel Rivera that the donation was just a portion of the mayor’s target to complement the 7,000 lacking armchairs in the public schools of the city, as reported by the Department of Education.
“With this donation of armchairs, we hope to address the pressing need of our schoolchildren in their academic learning,” Rivera stated.
The Armchairs Project is under the umbrella of AKLAT program or Alay sa Kabataan Lahat ng Alaga at Talino, an education and children’s program under the City Mayor's Office.
AKLAT aims to make schools and kids perform better by involving private-public partners in giving classrooms, chairs, books and other school needs.
Mayor Rivera prioritizes children as the recipients of his three main agenda (health, education and modified social services). The mayor’s father also pointed out that the Rivera family has already committed to the fulfillment of the endeavor by the city mayor, thus raising an amount of almost P300,000 for the donated armchairs through the aid of donors and partners of RD Group of Companies.
Aside from the public schools, skilled persons with disability (PWDs) will also benefit from the donation through the “Edukasyon Mo, Kabuhayan Mo” program which would give the PWDs livelihood through the construction of armchairs. (GENSAN INFO OFFICE/Ian John M. Lagare)
