GENERAL SANTOS CITY (26 February 2014) - City Mayor Ronnel Rivera with some city councilors give a warm reception to GenSan's new boxing champ, Marvin Sonsona. Sonsona snatched the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Featherweight Champion belt against former champ Akifumi Shimoda of Japan. A short left uppercut from Sonsona had knocked out cold Shimoda during the early minutes of the third round. Mayor Rivera has always drummed up GenSan to be the breeding ground for future sports champions and Sonsona is the latest product of such. (GENSAN INFO OFFICE/Russell Delvo)
